2017 Rebirth In Wellness: Holistic Health and Fitness fair...REBIRTH!

On January 28th, 2017 at City of Hope International, Sirius Fitness in conjunction with A Healthier Me’, held the 2017 ‘Rebirth In Wellness’ event, which is a Holistic Health and Fitness fair created by the owner of Sirius Fitness, Nasara Gargonnu in 2008. This event provides the community a free showcase of Health and Fitness Professionals sharing their wealth of knowledge through short lectures and fitness demonstrations. There were also numerous Wellness vendors with products and services.

This year there was a impressive group of individuals taking part in this event. The event kicked off with Nasara moving the crowd with his signature Sirius Fitness warmup and then explaining that ‘Rebirth in Wellness’ was created to spread Health and Fitness to the Southeast community. He felt strongly about this due to the fact that the community was at risk for preventable health risks and diseases that could be remedied through proper knowledge and preventive care. Nasara also explained that he lost his father at an early age from Prostate cancer and that his goal is to make sure he live a lifestyle that allows him to be around for his own children. Dr. Suzanne Afflalo, the retired Kaiser doctor and mastermind behind the ‘A Healthier Me’ program, spoke about preventative care as a  means to combat disease. She was followed by Hajar Young who spoke about stress management through breathing, meditation and essential oils. Author of The Well: Where Fitness Begins Within, Sahsha Campbell-Garbutt, wrapped up by the lectures speaking about How a fit mind leads to a fit body!

The fitness portion kicked off with Trena Bennett, creator of ‘GospelCise Fitness’ leading a heavenly inspired fitness routine that got the crowd motivated. Nasara & Moriah of Sirius Fitness followed with some fitness moves and dance fitness that kept the “party” going. Makena wrapped up the fitness with a ‘Dance it Out’ routine that brought the crowd together with a unifying dance.

In addition to the knowledge of Health and Fitness, the participants also received awesome raffle items, drinks, healthy food and a tasty cooking demonstration! If you want any more information about future events from Sirius Fitness you can contact Nasara at siriusfitness@gmail.com of follow him on Facebook at Coach Nasara Gargonnu and Sirius Fitness Run and Fit Club.

2016 Ohana 5k and Toy Drive

The 2016 Ohana 5k and Toy Drive was great! This race was organized by Aztlan Athletics and the toys collected were donated to the Joan Kroc Center in San Diego! I ran this race about 3 years ago with my student, Angel and Sirius Fitness member, Tracy G. I originally went with no intention to run, just to simply pass out Hot Chocolate 15k flyers, but how can I resist an opportunity to warmup the crowd! 😜 ...and then why not run too?! Lol! I had a cute little 9 year old help me out on stage for a song and she ended up winning her age group! Was it the Sirius Fitness Warmup??? Lol...Maybe a little, but she was FAST! I look forward to my Sirius Fitness team running this in 2017!

Celebrating the 2nd Annual "Sirius Fitness Day" (...in San Diego)

Thank you, thank you, thank you ALL who came thru tonight and got their "sweat on" at Cardio Blast! Thank you also for celebrating the 2nd annual "Sirius Fitness Day" with me! One year ago, today I received the honor of becoming an official partner with Live Well San Diego, which is a San Diego County initiative which promotes Health and Wellness in San Diego County! This class theme today was "The Future of Fitness" so I showcased up and coming YOUNG instructors in the fitness world. Liliana (a former & current class participant and OF COURSE...one of my original students) and Jackie (she used to watch our kids at Jackie Robinson Family YMCA...now she's kicking butt as an instructor) Thank you again to the Live Well San Diego & the County of San Diego for the honor! #SiriusFitness#LiveWellSanDiego

The 2016 MCRD Boot Camp Challenge (TEAM SIRIUS FITNESS)

We run a lot! 5k's, 10k's, Half Marathons, etc... but the MCRD Boot Camp Challenge is the ONE run that I attempt to get ALL my Sirius Fitness folks to participate. ONE...its challenging...TWO...its fun...Three...I've been running it since 2009 and FINALLY... it always falls on my Birthday week!! 😏  We organize a BIG group, stick with folks on our fitness level and most importantly, we wear ORANGE! lol! I almost didn't do it due to the cast on my wrist (see pics...lol), but I took it easy and kept my "since 2009" streak alive! The 2016 MCRD Boot Camp Challenge was challenging but I survived and it is now..."in the books!" Great job to my Sirius Fitness crew...They "Kicked Butt!" Those who didn't make it...hopefully we will see them in 2017! ~> RSVP for the 2017 EVENT

Are YOU ready to make a CHANGE?

Join me, Nasara Gargonnu, on my quest to get San Diego (and the World) moving in a "Healthy Direction!" I am a Father, Husband, Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor and Physical Education Teacher and I figured out that my PURPOSE is to spread the knowledge of Health, Fitness and OVERALL Wellness to everyone willing to listen (and even those who don't...lol!) I lost my father at the YOUNG age of 55 and I believe that many of us can prevent premature death and illnesses by "Eating Clean" (Cutting the preservatives, sugars and processed foods down to a minimum, eating REAL foods....Veggies, Fruits, Lean meats, etc...) a little exercise and Positive Thinking! It's an easy concept, but if we haven't been doing it in 20-30+ years or we have not been introduced to this lifestyle, it may be difficult.

In the upcoming days and weeks I will be posting about my Health and Wellness in abundance because I feel it is a LIFE OR DEATH priority! Please keep your eyes open and follow me THIS blog, on my Facebook "Coach" page and even my personal page!

"I'm ready to make a CHANGE for the better because I have to LIVE for my family...what about YOU?"

Sirius Fitness Health Tour: FREE viewing of “Soul Food Junkies"

"Soul Food Junkies" 2012 Trailer from Byron Hurt on Vimeo.
^^^^^ This place was PACKED OUT! It was a joy to see folks concerned with their Health and Nutrition! If we don't change now or at least be open to change we will continue to suffer from the "Dis-Ease" that plagues our communities! We owe it to ourselves and our Children! This is stop number one on the Sirius Fitness Health Tour in 2013! Thank you to The Valencia Park/Malcolm X Library, Network for a Healthy California-San Diego & Imperial Counties and PBS’s Community Cinema for presenting the film “Soul Food Junkies” on Wednesday January 9th at 6:00 pm. Filmmaker Byron Hurt explores the upsides and downsides of soul food, a quintessential American cuisine.

#13in2013: (13 Half Marathons in 2013)

SO...2012 was a good year when it came to running Half Marathons! I completed 10 and I'm looking for more in 2013! How many? Thirteen to be exact! 13 in 2013 is my mantra for this "run" year! Now...I do enjoy running these Half Marathons for my own personal gratification and health, but I also have two other important reasons why I run. Number one...THE CAUSES. Running for prostate cancer, crohn's disease, breast cancer, autism, etc is one of the main reasons I run. Number two...INSPIRING OTHERS. I know for a fact that consistently running and staying active myself allowed others to see that, not only do I practice what I preach, but if I can do it, THEY can do it too! I also want to SHOUT OUT and acknowledge all those organizations who supported me and sponsored some of my runs: Stepping Higher, Inc.,  Phi Beta Sigmas, Nubia Leadership Academy, Friends of Nubia and  Zero: The End of Prostate Cancer!

PS: always looking for donors and/or Sponsors to assist me on my Quest! I'll Shout you out to The Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest/Foursquare and Social Media World (10000+ Folks!)

Now here are some suggested Half Marathons and some additional runs (for those who want to join me on my quest of 13 runs!) JANUARY-JUNE 2013
