7 Sirius Fitness Tips for Running the Costume Party Run Half Marathon (This Sunday)

7 Sirius Fitness Tips for Running the Costume Party Run Half Marathon (This Sunday)

1-  Eat the Big meal at lunch rather than dinner...I learned this the hard way when I ate Heavy the night (7pm) before a race and "FELT IT" the next morning...not fun! You don't have to Carb Load, just eat a balanced "clean" meal...PIG OUT AFTER THE RACE! lol!

2- Get there early...I try to get there at least an hour before the start of the race. It's not cool to get there in rush mode just to have to get running within 10 minutes with no warming up, mental preparation or time for that "last minute" potty break.

3- Hydrate...Hydrate...Hydrate! Don't wait for the day of the race to start....drink more than your average a couple days prior to the race and (if you want) carry water in a hydration belt and if you don't like those (which I don't) make sure you drink water a EVERY water stop.

4- Pre-Race Fueling... Personally I drink a Verve (Healthy Energy Drink) prior to the race and/ or a 1/4 of a banana or some Gatorade "like" drink.

5- "In-race" fueling... Try an Island Boost "shot"...less sticky and chalky than "goo" and it is assists with a quick burst of energy from a "tasty" mixture of glucose, coconut water and Healthy "stuff"! I take mine at mile 7, 9 and 11 (if needed)

6- "Keep your eye on the prize" and...Remember your "WHY"...Why are you doing this? Think of the accomplishment...Goal...all the training...the cause...THE BLING! lol!

7- Afterwards we EAT for our ACCOMPLISHMENTS! (at 1pm~ Wear your Medal)  Sushi Deli 1 ~ 228 W. Washington St., San Diego CA 92103

Help me Fight Prostate Cancer! (Running for Dad 2013)

Nasara Gargonnu Fundraising Page - Nasara Gargonnu's Personal Page for 2013 Individual Endurance Team

It's about THAT time of year again! My father, Steven Gargonnu passed away from this Horrible disease and I want to put an end to the suffering of prostate cancer! Prostate cancer strikes nearly 240,000 men each year and kills nearly 30,000 others – and I need your help.

I’m taking part in the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Las Vegas this year to raise money that will be used to promote greater awareness about prostate cancer, provide free testing to men around the U.S. to combat this leading men’s health disease, and advance cutting-edge research toward finding a cure. Will you help me?

You can designate your contribution in memory of a loved one, or in honor of an individual now battling prostate cancer as well as in honor of his caregivers. And as I cross the finish line of the upcoming you’ll take comfort in knowing you helped make it possible.

National Running Day: "Sirius Fitness Running Happy Hour!"

Wednesday, June 5, 2013
 5:30pm until 7:00pm Rohr Park
4548 Sweetwater Rd Bonita, CA 91902

We "Sirius Runners" will commit to at least a mile...if we choose we can go further, but this simple is a relaxing run/jog/power walk to commemorate National Running day! All Levels are welcome! Bring a FRIEND!

What is National Running Day?? National Running Day, held annually on the first Wednesday in June, is a day when runners everywhere declare their passion for running. Wherever we are and whomever we’re with, we run—fast or slow, alone or with others, all over town or just around the block. It is a coast-to-coast celebration of a sport and activity that’s simple, inexpensive, and fun. It’s the perfect way for longtime runners to reaffirm their love of running and for beginners to kick off a lifetime and life-changing commitment.

#13in2013: Let the Journey begin...

In March of 2012 I ran against doctor's orders in the SD Half Marathon (due to Sciatica) and proceeded to run a total of 10 Half Marathons, raise money almost $700 for the Zero Prostate Cancer organization, inspire others in my community, as well as, outside my community to enjoy running and promote Health and Wellness throughout San Diego. I have several groups and friends to thank for assisting me as sponsors as I completed my 10 Half Marathons: Stepping Higher, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc - Omicron Iota Sigma Chapter, Nubia Leadership Academy, Friends of Nubia, Kim Howard, Sidni Taylor and several anonymous individuals. I had a great time...sometimes...rough times running, but overall I was satisfied with my accomplishments of 2012! Now in 2013 I was determined to "Take it #UPANOTCH"!

I have decided in 2013 to run 13 Half Marathons and with the San Dieguito Half Marathon being the first! Well...not only did I freeze my butt off before the race, but I didn't realize how "hilly" this course was. Now, It may seem like I'm complaining, but I'm not. I really enjoyed this race...not overly crowded and though the course was "hilly", for every uphill...thank God there was a downhill. lol! I ran in "just" over 2 hours (02:01:26 to be exact) and I was happy with my overall time since I really didn't train at all. I look forward to training (for real) in the upcoming months as I get ready to tackle 12 more Half Marathons...possibly culminating with a "FULL" in December. (I don't know...I'm scared of 26.2...lol!)

My next race is the San Diego Half Marathon which changed its course finish from Petco Park to the San Diego Gaslamp. I enjoyed finishing at Petco Park last year and seeing myself on the Jumbotron, but the Gaslamp should be fun too! A week after this race I'll be running the Hooleys to Hooleys Half Marathon and that will be a day after running the Domino's Pizza St. Patrick's Day 10k...whew! (I did say I was taking it #UPANOTCH this year! lol!) I'll be running a lot of these 13 Halfs with Mark <~check out his blog. #HappyRunning Y'all

Upcoming Races:
SD Half Marathon
Hooleys to Hooleys Half Marathon
Hollywood Half Marathon
La Jolla Half Marathon
Safari Park Half Marathon
